The Biostatistics Student Organization teamed up with the Career Resource Center and hosted a networking workshop to connect students with CRC and to provide general knowledge in regards to the resources, career planning and services offered to students.
The celebration of research day was held on February 19, 2018 at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center. This event consisted of a Keynote speech, a special guest seminar, and a poster session. In total, 96 posters were presented. Of those, several Biostatistics students and faculty members participated and shared their research as part of the poster session.
Kai Yang, second year Ph.D student, was selected to receive one of the ASA’s section on Statistics in Epidemiology Young Investigator Awards. This award is presented to honor the best papers submitted by young investigators in statistics in epidemiology.
Diana Rojas Alvarez, M.D., Ph.D., was honored last month by the University of Florida International Center. The International Student Awards Ceremony recognizes students who have exemplary academic records and a wide range of other accomplishments.
Jingnan Zhang, Ph.D., was recently named as one of the thirteen College of Public Health and Health Professions', outstanding alumni for the year 2017. Dr. Zhang received her doctorate in biostatistics from the department in 2016. She is currently a biostatistician at Pfizer.
The department welcomes seven more graduates to its alumni circle. Jing Liu, Yushuf Sharker, Sinjini Sikdar, and Suwa Xu graduated with their PhD in Biostatistics on August 4. Kuei-Hsun Chiu, Yiqing Chen, and Chuan Zou graduated with their Master of Science in Biostatistics on August 5.
Dr. Sinjini Sikdar was recently awarded a PhD in Biostatistics. She successfully defended her dissertation in June 2017, entitled "Statistical Methods for Analyzing Genomics Data". She was mentored by Professor, Susmita Datta.
Congratulations to first year PhD biostatistics student, Tyler Grimes, as he has received a travel award from the International Society for Computational Biology, to attend the 25th Conference on Intelligent Systems for Molecular Biology and the 16th European Conference on Computational Biology.
Congratulations to UF Master of Public Health (MPH) alumnus, Isaac Sia, who graduated in Spring 2016 earning a Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Science in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences of the UF College of Public Health and Health Professions.
